Naiad and FumeFX Character Study from Kjell Strode on Vimeo.
Software used: Naiad, Maya, 3DsMax, Krakatoa, FumeFX, Frost, Nuke
This is the shot I originally wanted to do for my first Naiad Man. I just didn’t have the animation at the time. This character animation is originally from a softimage tutorial so the only thing I didn’t do on my own is the character animation. From there I exported the animation to Maya and then Max (It worked better that way so I could export the geo to Naiad in emp form). From there I brought in the one character, sword, and hair to be simulated with liquidin Naiad. I set the droplets so I could later separate the splash from the base and mesh in Frost. I used Krakatoa to interpret the distance from the character to calculate the base mesh (So it wouldn’t mesh the whole thing) I then reversed it to use for the splash. Krakatoa was also used to color the frost mesh and splash particles by velocity. Vray was used to render the base mesh while Krakatoa was used to render the particles. The layers are then composited in Nuke. The fire and smoke was done using Fumefx 3 with high substeps and a very high resolution and was rendered using Vray.
